FUN

This section has been thought through to maximise the interaction of fun, as laughter is a key indicator of well-being.

The senses were key when selecting items to include. So fun can be a sensation, a smell, a sound or just vibrant colours. All items offer an opportunity to interact with your loved one.

ACTIVITY

We designed a male version and a female version of an activity. The male version has a shirt, tie and buttons. The tie can be removed and worn by your loved one before being returned to the shirt. Once opened the shirt reveals a sensory fabric for an additional sensation.

For the female version, we have a square designed for sewing. We have included wool, bobbins for holding the wool and a needle. These are all inserted into a pocket. The art of sewing is familiar to most, even if it was not a hobby in the past.

These activities offer a challenge and increase confidence. Repeating activities offer familiarity and reassurance to your loved one and is unlikely to become boring.

ALL ABOUT ME

This pocket has a fabric insert with questions for completion all about your loved one. These details are a means, for all those providing care of getting to know your loved one. A clear pocket is also attached for personal or family photos.

The importance of your loved one having their name, likes and interests readily available will be of great benefit to them and support others to communicate and interact more readily.

B

BYGONE DAYS

This section is demonstrated with photos printed directly on to fabric and sewn into the blanket for security. The photos are focused on specific themes to evoke memories and offer a valuable source of communicating during a visit or at home.

For example a photo of a train can trigger a memory of ‘going on holiday’, a trip or commuting to work.
